I spend so much time each day gathering information for articles and posts that it seemed silly not to compose a newsletter.
Below is a summary of the most fascinating articles and information I’ve come across in the last 48-72hrs.
First half of the summaries are available to all. The second half is paywalled as these naturally take time to put together. You can access the entire newsletter, past exposés, and factsheets, for just £3 a month. Every subscription helps draw power away from the legacy media and put it into the hands of citizen journalists like myself.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld the New York State Supreme Court's decision from January 13, 2023, which declared the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers in the state invalid. This comes after the state's attempt to appeal the decision was dismissed. The original lawsuit, prompting the ruling, was filed in October 2022 by Medical Professionals for Informed Consent against the New York State Department of Health, Governor Kathleen C. Hochul, and Health Commissioner Mary T. Bassett.
Scientists at the University of Aberdeen, in partnership with NHS Grampian, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, and NHS Lothian, have initiated a crucial study exploring the causes of severe side effects from adenovirus-based COVID-19 vaccines, including Oxford-Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson. They aim to uncover the reasons why previously healthy individuals experience severe conditions post-vaccination, such as fatal blood clots or bleeding abnormalities. The study centres on a condition known as Vaccine Induced Immune Thrombocytopenia and Thrombosis (VITT). Researchers have found that VITT patients possess distinct antibodies to a protein named platelet factor 4 (PF4). These antibodies activate small blood cell fragments, called platelets, leading to abnormal blood clotting, often in uncommon locations like the brain, gut, and liver.
In 2021, a 24-year-old woman with Type 1 diabetes experienced a drastic rise in her blood glucose levels the day after receiving her COVID-19 booster shot, baffling doctors. This prompted Dr. Mihail "Misha" Zilbermint of Johns Hopkins to investigate a potential connection between the vaccine and glucose level fluctuations. Zilbermint spearheaded a study, enrolling 21 adults with Type 1 diabetes. Participants included those who received Moderna (8) and Pfizer-BioNTech (13) boosters. Using Dexcom G6 Pro continuous glucose monitors, the study monitored glucose shifts for ten days around the vaccination. A notable rise in glucose levels was seen post vaccination. While the average glucose level increased by about 10 points, representing a 6% overall rise, Dr. Andrew Demidowich, a researcher at Johns Hopkins, noted that a significant 25% of participants witnessed a pronounced surge in blood sugar post-vaccination.
Compared to the EU, the UK's regulations on facial recognition remain ambiguous, distributed among various legislative documents. The situation remains complicated, especially with the dissolution of the biometrics and surveillance camera commissioner’s office. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) informed Tech Monitor that they are currently in talks with the government regarding these directives. While the EU favours restriction, a representative from the Home Office emphasised the UK's commitment to equipping the police with essential tools and technologies. They highlighted the potential benefits of facial recognition technology, suggesting its potential in swiftly and precisely identifying individuals. Critics worry that the scheme could, however, lead to a dramatic increase in false positive identifications. Impeding the lives of law-abiding citizens, who are simply going about their daily lives.
Adobe, the creator of Photoshop, has announced its initiative to combat image-based misinformation. Joining forces with corporate giants such as BBC, Microsoft, Nikon, Leica, and Publicis Groupe, which represents major brands like Nestlé, Walmart, and P&G, the coalition aims to introduce an icon denoting the authenticity of images. This "CR" or "credentials" red icon will not necessarily vouch for the originality of an image but will indicate if the image has been altered post-creation. Some argue that the collaboration, which involves more than 2,000 entities, seems more like a large-scale corporate manoeuvre to protect revenues rather than a genuine attempt to battle misinformation.
A fire that broke out in a Coventry flat complex over the weekend was likely ignited by an electric bike battery left on charge, according to firefighters. The incident occurred at Samuel Vale House in Radford, with the blaze starting on the 11th floor. In response, up to 50 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Some sections of the St. Nicholas Street building had to be evacuated, and affected individuals were accommodated in a neighbouring church. On Monday, the fire service released a photo depicting the extensive damage caused by the fire.
Last week, another devastating fire, originating from an electric car, left a family of five homeless. Julie Hensby, 44, recounted the horrifying experience of retrieving her three sleeping children as flames engulfed their vehicle and rapidly spread to their home. Julie and her husband David, 48, along with their son Jay, 15, and twin daughters Summer and Aimee, 9, were all asleep when the tragedy struck. The family states they have "lost everything" in the blaze.
