Beautiful essay…what a lovely way to start the day, Christmas Eve. What if the soldiers had laid down their arms and refused to fight? Many of us have done so since Covid began - walked away from the screaming media and now look at each other as fellow humans, not enemies…

It takes moral courage to break the cycle, to be the one who doesn't follow the crowd or follow the orders. Most of us think we would have that courage but most of us never have to put it to the test, especially since we in the west have lived mostly peaceful affluent lives since the end of the second hoo-haw. I think the covid debacle showed where the courageous are and the internet allowed us all to find them. These are the people who would have been the first to get out of the trench with the football.

It is a tear jerking story. But to add....then, they took up their guns the next day, and proceeded with the war. I think it speaks to the human / animal mind and it's coping mechanisms. We need beauty and friendliness, even while we kill for the empire. What a creature.
